Honored Martyr's Story
Nawar was born into the family of American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki who was killed, as was his American-born son, in a 2011 targeted drone attack. Six years later, 8 year old Nawar went to visit her maternal uncle Abdelilah al-Dahab in the al-Ghayil village of the Yakla region when a Navy Seal and Emerati special operative attack on the village took place. Nawar was hiding in the home and a bullet from a gunship struck her in the neck. The village was under a lengthy and fierce firefight aimed at indiscriminately killing anyone who made themselves visible. Some fire made it past the walls of homes as well. Nawar could not get help and bled to death.
