Honored Martyr's Story
After shopping with a friend and taking a minibus, Ozgecan was left alone on the bus with the driver after all of the passengers exited to their destinations. The driver attempted to rape her and, when she fought back, he beat her and stabbed her. His father and friend assisted him in burning and disposing her body. The reporting of this incident caused national outrage since the media and state spoke of her life as unworthy of justice because she was from a poor minority family and did not dress in hijab.
