Honored Martyr's Story
Shifa was a Kurdish refugee in the Kurdish area of Iraq, born in Iran. She became a Kurdish language journalist. Shifa had daily coverage on the Iraq offensive of Daesh. As part of her series, she and her camera operator went to the site of the ISIS mass human graves called “valley of death” outside of Mosul. Like much of her coverage, she was the only woman on site. When she attempted her visit, at the guidance of Shia paramilitary, they were hit by a roadside bomb. She, along with several paramilitary fighters, was killed. Her camera operator was severely injured. Days before her assassination, Shifa found an injured rabbit that she picked up to nurse while covering the toll the war had on animals.
