Honored Martyr's Story
Nadira moved to Turkey to work and raise money to go to college. She was a domestic worker in the home of Şirin Ünal, a member of the ruling political party AKP. She was found dead of a bullet wound days before her examination to enter college. Her death was ruled a suicide with an investigation rushed and closed. Her body was sent back to her home country, Uzbekistan. Many human rights organizations questioned the manner and bias of the investigation, and there is wide spread belief that her death was not suicide. Without a police interview, her best friend made a statement that Nadira confessed to her that she was being sexually harassed and assaulted.
