Honored Martyr's Story
Shaimaa, a mother and poet, was walking with friends to Cairo’s Tahrir Square to lay flowers on the anniversary of the 2011 revolution that toppled former President Mubarak. Masked police fired on the group with tear gas. Lieutenant Yassin Hatem Salahedeen shot her by a short range firearm. Footage showed Shaimaa collapsing to the ground and being cradled by a friend. All of the people walking with her were arrested for being “socialist.”
