Honored Martyr's Story
Razan faced ongoing harassment and racist name-calling by her neighbor Craig Stephen Hicks based on her Palestinian and Jordanian-American identity. Hicks then intentionally killed her, her sister Yusor and brother in-law as an act of aggression toward them for being Arab and Muslim. While Hicks was charged at the first-degree for intentional murder, police did not deem this murder by Hicks as driven by hate and his xenophobic statements were not recognized as a hate crime.
