Honored Martyr's Story
At an early age, Mina was able to see inequities toward women. She studied midwifery and law, and got a degree in journalism. She was married by arrangement at the age of 17. As a journalist, Mina became well known for her activism for women’s rights. Her husband was threatened by her work and became violent toward her, demanding she leave. She was able to file for a divorce after numerous pleas of abuse and fearing for her life. Her ex-husband and his family continued to harass her, eventually kidnapping and torturing her for days. Mina’s family negotiated and was able to have her released. Shortly after her release, Mina was shot point blank in the morning hours. It is unknown who killed her, but believed that her former spouse was behind it.
