Honored Martyr's Story
Masoumeh was married off by her family as a teenager. When her husband became abusive, she ran away to her parents’ home. The husband was enraged by Masoumeh showing agency and making the decision to leave, so he began spreading lies about her being adulterous. Throughout the rest of the Iran women were rising up for their rights. This community became threatened and held tight to toxic patriarchal values of women and children as property of men and government. Under pressure to defend his honor and the honor of a nation, Masoumeh’s father stabbed her to death, wrapped her body in a sheet, and dropped her body off in front of the community Sheikh’s home before turning himself into the police.
